What a month it was! The weather, crazy busy at work, holiday preperation etc etc. I have NO IDEA where the month went, but I can't say I am overy sad to see it go LOL.
Kai started off the month with another birthday party. It was for another one of my co-workers little boys, Mateo. It was a Dino Bouncer Party at The Glencarin Rec Centre. It took Kai a little while to actually go inside the bouncers, but once he did there was no stopping him. Boy was he "pooped" after we left there. We had a great time! The weather when we came out on the other hand was not so great. This was the first of many December icy, snowy, freezing storms that I got to drive though!
The rest of the month up until the holidays was fairly uneventful, just more crappy crappy weather and craziness at work.
The next "highlight" of the months was the evening of the 23rd, another "tropical" day. I left work and was on my way to pick up Kai. I made a quick stop at Tim Horton's to pick up some coffee for the holidays and then made my way to David's friends house. I get there, turn the car off, go inside get Kai and his stuff and load him into the car, turn on the car...it won't start! AWESOME! Just what I need at 9:00 at night, 2 days before Christmas. I try to start it a few more times, nothing. So I figure it might be the battery, so I will try boosting it. The only problem is that I am parked in their single driveway with a fence on one side and the house on the other. I go to put the car in neutral and it won't move. Finally after numerous phone calls, I go out and reef on the gear shift and finally I get it into neutral. So we get the car moved back and get it boosted, it starts no problem. The only problem is that now the check engine light is on. I decide that I have my cellphone and will be on the #1 highway the entire way, so I drive home, uneventfully. The next morning my car starts fine, but the light is still on, so I take my mom's car to work. When I get home I try starting it again and again it starts fine and light is now off. Everything has been fine since, so I really have no idea what happened, but I am just glad that it didn't end up being something serious......YET! LOL
Christmas Eve I worked during the day and we went over to my mom's for the evening. We did are gift exchanges then because Kai would be at his dad's for Christmas Day. Kai got SPOILED ROTTEN, just as I excpected he would. Lets see if I can remember everything; Radio Flyer spring horse, drum set, guitar, train sets (more on these later), hockey set, movies, clothes, wool sweater, books, money, name train, other various toys and there has to be more I am sure. These were only the presents from my side of the family who knows what all he has at his dads. The one thing I know he got was a Power Wheels truck.
Kai got picked up at about 8:30 and we spent the rest of the evening just hanging out yapping and eating etc. I ended up falling asleep in a recliner chair and remained there until about 10:00 the next morning.
Christmas day was a pretty lazy one for me. I went for a dip in the hot tub in the morning and them came home and did pretty much nothing for a good few hours. Later in the afternoon my dad and his girlfriend came out and my sister and I had a good visit with them. Then later in the evening we went back over to my moms. We spent the evening playing games, and taking stupid embarrassing pictures of each other. Our Christmas dinner consisted of pasta and salad at about 9:30 at night.
My sister started working at Applebees and on Boxing Day they had a Family and Friends training session. She was allowed to bring in three people for free food and drinks so that the staff could practice before the actual opening. So that was a pretty sweet deal! I then battled crowds and did a bit of shopping. It wasn't as crazy out as I actually thought it would be, but it was later in the day so that might have had something to do with it. I picked Kai up in the evening and we stopped at Tim Horton's for a quick coffee and made our way home.
The weekend was pretty uneventful. I made another quick trip into the city to pick up a new digital camera. I am thrilled with it! I have had the same camera for about 3 years and it has done the job, but it is really basic and doesn't have many features. The thing that impresses me most about this new one is that it has video with sound. I have an actual video camera, but very rarely use it because I never have it around when I actually want it. The quality of video on the new camera isn't the greatest, but it will do the trick. Now hopefully I can figure out how upload them on here!
I am glad I didn't have any big plans for New Year's Eve because it was GROSS out. I wasn't sure I would even be able to make it home and I probably shouldn't have even tried. The highway was treterous, but needless to say we made it. Kai and I spent the evening at my mom's playing with all of his new toys and watching movies. We actually missed 12:00, I went the kitchen and looked at the clock at 12:08. I yet again spent the night in my mom's recliner, I swear those chairs have something in them that just knocks you out, as she has the same problem with them.
I came home yesterday morning to find 4 ft of snow in my driveway! I had to park on the street and plow my way to the door. It took me an hour and half to get it shovelled out (I am not liking what I see out the window right now, MORE SNOW! I have no idea where I am going to put it. It is already piled super high on both sides of the driveway now). We spent the rest of the day just hanging out and playing more and more toys.
Ok so back to the train table. Kai's grandpa bought him a massive train table for Christmas. Awesome right? Yeah, minus the assembly. It said on the box that it would take 2-4 hours to assemble. The problem with that is when do I have 2-4 hours to assemble it? I opened the box a few days ago, but closed it right back up when I saw what was inside. Definitely not a project to tackle with a toddler around. So finally last night, my mom said she was going to come over and tackle it. Everything was going fine until she realized that some of the pieces didn't have the holes drilled in them. So she proceeded to drill them in and then went to put the screws in. The only problem was that because the holes were supposed to be bigger on one end so that the screws could be recessed. How are you supposed to do that with a regular home drill? Didn't seem like a huge deal, but now the screws were to short. So I went and got my screws, but they were cheap and just got destroyed by the drill. My mom went home and got some longer screws...too long though. So in the end she used my cheap screws, but just screwed them in manually. Surprising that was the only really hang up with the entire project (besides one piece put on upside down). So by 12:30 the table was DONE! Luckily I came to my senses and resisted the temptation to wake Kai up to see it. I did spend the next hour re-arranging my house to make room for this thing though.
This morning I realized that the labour involved with the table was worth it. Kai spent a good 3 hours straight playing at it. Anything that can keep this kids attention for more than 5 seconds is worth ANYTHING to me LOL!
Shortly I will be taking Kai back to his dad's house (weather permitting) and I am back to work tomorrow. We are having our staff Christmas party tomorrow night, so that should be a good time. After that I guess the holidays are officially over for another year. Hopefully everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and has a great 2009!
Please excuse the numerous grammatical and spelling mistakes that I am sure there are in this post. I had limited time and lots to say! I will come back later tonight to fix them and upload the pictures!
